EchoStar unit buys satellite-enabled IoT connectivity company

EchoStar Corp. subsidiary EchoStar Global LLC acquired Helios Wire Corp., a Canada-based satellite-enabled internet of things connectivity company, for an undisclosed sum.

Under the acquisition, EchoStar Global also acquired Helios' Australian subsidiaries, Sirion Holdings Pty. Ltd. and Sirion Global Pty. Ltd.

Sirion Global holds global spectrum rights for S-band mobile satellite service, administered by Australia, and has been working to develop services for high-volume asset tracking and monitoring applications by satellite.

The acquisition occurred via a court-approved plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (British Columbia).
