Uber, Cityscoot to launch e-mopeds in Paris

Uber Technologies Inc. will introduce electric mopeds in Paris in partnership with French startup Cityscoot beginning next month, according to an Oct. 16 release.

The e-mopeds can travel at speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour, the company said. The vehicles are equipped with a protective apron that covers the legs, as well as a transparent tactile pouch to allow users to safely follow their phone's GPS. The e-mopeds also come with a helmet and hairnet.

A warning will be immediately sent to Uber's customer service in case a user falls, the company said. All trips will be covered by Allianz France all-risks insurance, Uber added.

Cityscoot, which runs a fleet of 4,000 e-mopeds, will continue to charge its normal rate of 29 euro cents per minute through the Uber app.
