Utility subsidiaries of Evergy Inc. have begun using versions of the parent company's name in their public operations, Evergy said in an Oct. 7 news release.
Westar Energy Inc. and Great Plains Energy Inc. — parent company to Kansas City Power & Light Co., or KCP&L, and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Co. — merged to form Evergy in 2018 but continued to use their respective names in their service areas.
Westar will now go by the name Evergy Kansas Central. KCP&L serves customers in both Kansas and Missouri and, depending on location, will go by Evergy Kansas Metro and Evergy Missouri Metro. KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations will go by Evergy Missouri West. Rate service areas defined by Kansas and Missouri utilities regulators will remain the same.
For the time being, customer service contact information and outage maps will remain separate for the former Westar and former KCP&L utilities.
