Ormat achieves commercial operation at 24-MW Nev. geothermal facility

Ormat Technologies Inc. achieved commercial operation at its 24-MW Tungsten Mountain Geothermal II facility in Churchill County, Nev., on Dec. 1.

The plant is anticipated to generate average annual revenue of about $15 million annually, according to a Dec. 21 release. The facility will deliver its output under a 26-year contract to Southern California Public Power Authority, which will resell the entire output to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Tungsten Mountain uses Ormat's latest turbine design, which is expected to significantly reduce the plant's operating costs and increase its efficiency, capacity and availability, according to the release.

"Commercial operation of the Tungsten Mountain project brings our operating portfolio to a total of 800 MW, demonstrating double-digit growth of our portfolio since the beginning of the year," Ormat Technologies CEO Isaac Angel said. "This growth will provide a meaningful contribution to our results in 2018 and beyond."
