Chile's state-owned Codelco, the world's top copper producer, shut down its Ventanas smelter in the country's central coast for maintenance but provided no details about when operations will resume or the closure's impact on production, Reuters reported Aug. 21.
Codelco said the facility has been closed since Aug. 19.
In 2018, Codelco stopped operations of three of four furnaces at its Ventanas foundry due to high levels of sulfur dioxide.
