Stanmore halts mining at Queensland coal mine due to cyclone threat

Stanmore Coal Ltd. said March 29 that it has ceased mining operations and placed its Isaac Plains coal mine into a protective phase due to a tropical cyclone crossing parts of Queensland, Australia.

Cyclone Debbie has delivered significant wind and rain conditions which are expected to continue for a number of days, impacting large areas of the Bowen Basin.

The company has moved key assets away from mining areas and potential water courses.

Meanwhile, the mine's port provider has declared a force majeure to protect key assets and infrastructure.

The company anticipates that production will be impacted for the rest of the week.

Operations will only resume when conditions permit in order to ensure employees' safety, Stanmore noted.
