Edenville Energy Plc has received a formal request from Tanzania's Ministry of Energy and Minerals to proceed with the development of its Rukwa coal-to-power project, the company said May 30.
The project is part of the government's new power master plan update, which is progressively rolled out to provide long-term power generation for the country up to 2040.
In 2016, Edenville carried out a feasibility study pegging a net present value, at a 10% discount, of US$252 million and an internal rate of return of 23% for a 120-megawatt power generation facility.
A bankable feasibility study is being completed in partnership with China's Sinohydro Corp., together with the finalizing of a power purchase agreement and construction of associated infrastructure with Tanzanian Electric Supply Co.
