Seven companies will voluntarily recall almost 290,000 vehicles to repair faulty parts, Yonhap News Agency reported May 24, citing a statement from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Carmakers Kia Motors Corp., Renault SA's Renault Samsung Motors Co. Ltd., Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd., AB Volvo's Volvo Korea, Volkswagen AG's Porsche Korea Ltd. and two importers of two-wheelers will recall 30 different models of vehicles sold in South Korea, the report said.
Among the cars subject to the recall are Kia's Carnival minivan, which has a defective sliding door system; Mercedes-Benz's GLC 220d 4MATIC coupe, which has malfunctioning airbags; and Volvo's XC90 sports-utility vehicle, which has a leakage of coolant, according to the news outlet.
Owners of vehicles affected in the recall can visit designated repair and service centers to have the parts replaced for free starting May 25, the report said.
The latest wave of recalls is part of initiatives by carmakers and importers to ensure that their vehicles meet safety rules, Yonhap said.
