Ameren to acquire 400-MW wind farm in Missouri

Ameren Missouri agreed to acquire a 400-MW wind farm in Adair and Schuyler counties, Mo., as part of its plan to add at least 700 MW of new wind capacity by 2020, the Ameren Corp. utility announced May 21.

A Terra-Gen LLC affiliate will build the 175-turbine project, which is enabled by Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois' 100-mile, 345-kV Mark Twain transmission line. The transmission project is expected to enter service in December 2019.

The wind project is expected to enter operation in 2020 and will serve an estimated 120,000 homes.

The transaction is subject to a number of conditions, including timely approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission and securing a timely and acceptable Midcontinent ISO transmission interconnection agreement.

The utility said the acquisition is "first major step" in implementing its 20-year integrated resource plan that supports cleaner energy in the state. In addition to adding at least 700 MW of new wind capacity by 2020, Ameren Missouri also expects to add 100 MW of solar energy over the next 10 years, with 50 MW targeted to come online by 2025.

Ameren Missouri is known legally as Union Electric Co.
