Lamb Weston forms South American JV

U.S. meat processor Lamb Weston Holdings Inc. established a joint venture with Argentinian holding company Sociedad Comercial del Plata SA to cater to the South American market, according to an Oct. 15 release.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The new venture called Lamb Weston Alimentos Modernos SA will sell frozen potato products under the Rapipap and Morixe brands and will run a factory in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires, which can process 130 million pounds of finished products yearly, Lamb Weston said.

"South America is a strategic and growing market, and this joint venture will allow us to produce quality fries in Argentina and serve the broader South American region with an established partner," Lamb Weston CEO Tom Werner said in a statement.

The joint venture raises the number of global Lamb Weston manufacturing facilities to 27, the release added.
