TransAlta, Capital Power complete exchange of stakes in coal-fired plants

TransAlta Corp. and Capital Power Corp. completed their swap of ownership interests in the Keephills 3 and the Genesee 3 facilities in Alberta.

Keephills 3 is a 463-MW coal-fired generating facility that started commercial operations in 2011. It is now fully owned by TransAlta.

The 466-MW Genesee 3 coal-fired plant, which started operating in 2005, is now fully owned by Capital Power.

The two generating units had been owned and operated under the companies' joint venture agreements.
