BNP Paribas to trim Paris-based retail banking jobs

BNP Paribas SA intends to cut 91 Paris-based retail banking positions that focus on activities outside key European markets, Reuters reported June 1.

The jobs serve markets such as Poland and Turkey, as well as acting on behalf of U.S. unit BancWest Corp., the report said, adding that employees whose jobs are cut will be offered other roles. The Paris unit houses a team of 292 employees, the newswire wrote, citing the FO trade union.

A spokeswoman for the bank confirmed there would be no layoffs.

The union reportedly said Paris-based human resources jobs will also be trimmed to 31 from 59. The French banking giant's overall international retail banking team is made up of 41,000 employees in 15 countries, the report noted.
