Leeward Renewable Energy LLC plans to repower its Mendota Hills Wind Farm in Illinois, a move that will increase the facility's total capacity to about 76 MW from 50 MW.
Located in Lee County, the wind farm entered into operation in November 2003. The facility operated at an 18.60% capacity factor in 2016, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
As part of the project, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will supply new turbines that will replace the existing 63 units of legacy Gamesa turbines. The company will also continue to provide operations and maintenance for the site.
The repowering project is expected to begin in March and to be completed by December.
Leeward Renewable Energy is a portfolio company of ArcLight Capital Partners LLC.
