Report: Netflix discussing programming deal with Obama

Netflix Inc. is in advanced talks with former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, for a deal to produce exclusive content for the streaming service, The New York Times reported March 8, citing sources with knowledge of the talks.

Details such as the number of episodes to be produced and the format for the shows have yet to be decided under a proposed deal.

Under one possible scenario, Barack Obama could moderate discussions on topics such as healthcare, voting and climate change, while another program could feature Michelle Obama taking on topics like nutrition. The Obamas could also back documentaries and fictional content, according to the report.

Sources also said executives from Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. have also shown interest in discussing content deals with the former president.

"As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories," Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, said in a statement.
