SNC-Lavalin Inc. announced March 28 that subsidiary Candu Energy Inc. reached five-year collective agreements with the Society of Professional Engineers & Associates.
SPEA's bargaining units represent engineers, scientists, technicians and technologists. SNC-Lavalin said in a news release that the agreements provide long-term stability to Candu Energy's workforce. "With an order book that includes life extension projects for Ontario Power Generation Inc., Bruce Power and Nucleoeléctrica Argentina Sociedad Anónima [NA-SA], we are pleased to reach this mutually agreeable contract," said Preston Swafford, Candu Energy president and CEO.
The company said China is scouting CANDU nuclear technology "for its ability to reuse spent fuel from other reactor types and NA-SA is considering building a new unit." Utilities in Romania and the U.K. are also interested in Candu technology, according to SNC-Lavalin.
