EDF Renewable Energy achieved commercial operation at two solar power facilities totaling 179 MWac in Apex, Nev.
The company acquired Switch Station 1 and Switch Station Solar II from First Solar Inc. in June. The projects were built on a U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Solar Energy Zone, according to a Dec. 11 news release.
Switch Station 1 will sell its entire output to Nevada Power Co., while Switch Station Solar II will sell 35% of its output to Nevada Power and 65% to Sierra Pacific Power Co. Through these power purchase agreements, the facilities will deliver power to Switch Inc. data centers in Las Vegas and Reno.
Switch, a technology infrastructure company, has committed to power its facilities with 100% clean energy.
Nevada Power and Sierra Power, which do business as NV Energy, are Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiaries. EDF Renewable Energy is an EDF Group subsidiary.
