Operations at Randgold's Tongon mine restart after prolonged strike

Operations at Randgold Resources Ltd.'s Tongon gold mine in Ivory Coast restarted after its management lifted the lock-out imposed on workers after a prolonged strike which started in July.

The company said Sept. 5 that negotiations led to an agreement to re-employ workers in phases according to the startup of the mine's sections, which is expected to be complete by the weekend.

However, the work stoppage has forced a revision of its production forecast for the year which is now estimated at 230,000 ounces of gold, down from the previous 250,000 ounces gold projected in August.

The agreement also stipulates that the previous government-led discussions, to address industrial-relations issues, should be resumed since they were interrupted by the strike.
