Industry research group EPRI expands into Europe

The Electric Power Research Institute, or EPRI, a U.S. nonprofit that conducts research and develops demonstration projects on electricity generation and delivery, has created a new business entity that will allow the organization to participate in consortiums for research projects in Europe.

The new EPRI subsidiary, EPRI Europe Ltd., will be headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. "EPRI considers Ireland a center for electricity sector innovation and testing for utility systems, making it an ideal setting for European R&D collaboration," EPRI President and CEO Mike Howard said in a news release March 11.

EPRI's members represent about 90% of electricity generated and delivered in the U.S., and include investor-owned, municipal and cooperative utilities. The organization currently has offices and laboratories in Palo Alto, Calif., Charlotte, N.C., Knoxville, Tenn., and Lenox, Mass.
