Total U.S. nuclear plant availability noted a modest increase to 89.16% early June 1, up from 88.73% on May 31, but still below the 94.10% reported on the same day in 2016.
Increased production at two reactors helped prop up total output. Tennessee Valley Authority's Sequoyah 2 unit in Tennessee was pegged at 14% early June 1, up from 1% the day prior, after being recently restarted following a refueling outage that began on April 28. In addition, Public Service Enterprise Group Inc.'s Salem 2 plant in New Jersey was operating at 47% early June 1, up from 28% on May 31.
With the summer peak demand season approaching, a total of eight nuclear units around the country remain offline.
