PanTerra Gold temporarily ceases Las Lagunas gold-silver project ops

PanTerra Gold Ltd. said Jan. 8 that its operations at the Las Lagunas gold-silver project in the Dominican Republic temporarily ceased after one of the six Albion reactors ruptured.

The incident resulted in no injuries to the personnel at the operation, with the nontoxic slurry in the tank spilling to a purpose-built, line environmental pond.

A review of the integrity of the remaining tanks, as well as the removal of the damaged tank, is expected to be part of a projected three- to four-week shutdown of the operation.

Replacement of the ruptured tank is unlikely, as the precious metals producer projects the process plant could efficiently operate at the budgeted throughput based on the five tanks. PanTerra Gold was undertaking a program of reinforcing the Albion tanks and installing new internal skins prior to the incident.
