Parsippany, N.J.-based biopharmaceutical company The Medicines Co. appointed Sarah Schlesinger to serve as an independent director, with immediate effect.

Schlesinger is chair of The Rockefeller University Hospital's institutional review board and a senior physician and associate professor of clinical investigation at the university.

She has worked in the field of cellular immunity for more than 20 years.
