Another South African union joins strike at Optimum mine over unpaid wages

Members of South Africa's Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union have joined a strike at the Optimum coal mine owned by the Gupta family, Eyewitness News reported Feb. 27.

Striking AMCU members claim their wages were not paid and joined the labor action at the mine staged days earlier by the National Union of Mineworkers. According to the report, the mine's management has failed to pay over 2,000 employees and owes service providers more than 60 million South African rand.
