French household spending falls for 3rd straight quarter in Q2

Household spending in France edged up by 0.1% in volume terms in June after rising by a revised 1.0% in May, the country's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies said.

Spending on engineered goods increased by 0.4% from the previous month but food and energy consumption remained stable in June.

Spending on durables slowed to 0.6% from 1.1% in the previous month, while spending on textile clothing increased by 0.3% in June after falling by 2.0% in May.

Household consumption expenditure decreased for the third straight quarter, declining by 0.3% in the second quarter from the first quarter. Spending on food products was down 1.3% quarter over quarter and energy consumption fell by 1.7% over the period. Spending on engineered goods increased by 1.2%.
