GEO Group Inc.'s contract for the Parklea Correctional Centre in New South Wales, Australia, will not be renewed following security lapses, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported, citing New South Wales Corrections Minister David Elliot.
The report said the Parklea prison, which became the first privately managed, publicly run correctional center in Australia when GEO Group took over management in 2009, will not have its contract extended following a series of violent incidents and scandals.
The GEO Group Australia had made a submission in late February as part of a parliamentary inquiry into the correctional facility, in which it recommended, among other things, that all prisons in the state be subject to common performance measures and that prison performance be validated by an independent authority.
