FERC staff gives environmental OK to Paiute expansion in Nevada

The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a positive environmental review of a small Paiute Pipeline Co. natural gas expansion project in Nevada.

FERC staff determined in a Nov. 27 environmental assessment that the 2018 Expansion project, with mitigation measures, would result in no significant impacts to the surrounding region. The project would replace or build 8.46 miles of steel pipeline in segments on the existing Paiute system in Douglas and Lyon counties and Carson City, Nev.

The project would allow Paiute to meet shipper demands in Nevada and California, especially in winter months, according to the company. The developer executed binding precedent agreements with two shippers for the project. The project would provide up to 4,604 Dth/d of new capacity from Paiute's interconnection with Tuscarora Gas Transmission Co. to delivery points along Paiute laterals. The project would also allow for 1,031 Dth/d of existing delivery capacity to be shifted further downstream on Paiute's South Tahoe lateral.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Carson City were cooperating agencies in the environmental review.

Paiute applied for the project on July 5. The company has estimated an in-service date of Nov. 1, 2018, for the project. (FERC docket CP17-471)
