FERC staff gives thumbs up to 225-MMcf/d Blue Mountain pipeline project

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff found no significant environmental issues with Blue Mountain Midstream LLC's proposed pipeline that would provide 225 MMcf/d of natural gas transportation capacity to markets in Oklahoma.

The commission staff issued a Feb. 20 environmental assessment that concluded a commission approval of the Blue Mountain delivery line project would not have a significant effect on the environment. Staff recommended that the commission include mitigation measures as conditions on any certificate order.

"The project would primarily impact open land habitat, consisting of improved pasture, hay, and actively cultivated crops," staff said. Staff said construction impacts to open land, water and air would be temporary.

The project would carry gas from Blue Mountain's Chisholm Trail cryogenic gas complex, which is under construction, to the Enable Gas Transmission LLC and Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline Inc. pipeline systems. The Chisholm Trail complex will process gas produced in the Merge/SCOOP/STACK area in Grady and Canadian counties in Oklahoma.

Blue Mountain, a LINN Energy Inc. company, applied for the project Nov. 9, 2017. The project would mainly consist of two pipelines of 12-inch and 20-inch diameter, with a total length of almost 10 miles. Blue Mountain planned to begin construction in the first quarter of 2018 to meet an in-service date around the second quarter of 2018. (FERC docket CP18-14)
