Report: 2 Nike execs leave positions amid workplace complaints

Two Nike Inc. executives have left their positions suddenly amid workplace complaints, according to two separate reports by The Wall Street Journal.

In the latest turn in the management shake-up at Nike, Jayme Martin, a vice president and general manager of global categories, has left the company, Nike confirmed to S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Martin's departure comes a day after the Journal reported that Trevor Edwards, Nike's brand president, abruptly left his position as complaints from unidentified individuals surfaced about inappropriate behavior. Martin reported directly to Edwards, according to the report.

The two departures came as the company told staff in an internal memo that is has received complaints about behavior that does not uphold its core values, according to the Journal's report March 15.

The internal memo, written by Nike CEO, President and Chairman Mark Parker and reviewed by the Journal, did not specify the nature of the complaints or identify executives who might have been involved. Nike has stated that no direct allegations have been leveled against Edwards.

Edwards left his position as brand president but is still employed by Nike, according to the company.

Parker stated in the memo that Nike has received reports of inappropriate behavior and has heard from employees, noting that the company is investigating the reports and also evaluating its procedures for internal complaints, according to the Journal.

In an emailed statement to S&P Global Market Intelligence, responding to the Journal's March 15 report, Nike said the company has "made a decision to realign our team to accelerate our business and evolve our culture."

"There have been no direct allegations of misconduct against Trevor Edwards," the company said.

Nike said in a separate news release March 15 that Edwards will remain employed at Nike and serve as an adviser to Parker until he retires in August. The company also said Parker will remain chairman, president and CEO beyond 2020. Edwards was previously thought to be a successor to Parker, according to the Journal report.

Elliot Hill, former president of Nike geographies and sales, will take on a new role as president of consumer and marketplace and report to Parker, the company said. In addition, Michael Spillane will continue as president of categories and product, but will report directly to Parker.
