Citi's iPhone app to offer even non-clients bill management feature

Citigroup Inc.'s mobile app for the iPhone is rolling out new capabilities in the weeks ahead.

Non-clients will also be able to create profiles and connect accounts from different financial service providers. They will have access to the app's spending insights and bill management features, whether or not the bill is paid with a Citi card. And should they choose to open an account, the app will let them do so without ever visiting a branch.

The innovation is in line with the New York-based Citi's national digital banking plans. More features are said to be slated for release in the coming months. In the second quarter, according to The Wall Street Journal, those may include an array of banking, credit card, lending and investment products. Sometime this year, Citi plans to use the app for "point-of-sale" loans and automated investing, the WSJ added.

The company has said it aims to digitize 50% of its clients by 2020.
