Morgan Stanley survey reveals high ESG momentum among asset owners

Eighty-four percent of asset owners globally are pursuing or considering pursuing sustainable investment to regulate risk and propel returns, a survey released by the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing and Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc. revealed.

The survey also revealed that 60% of the asset owners employed environmental, social and governance practices into their investment process within the past four years, while 37% employed them within the past two years.

Additionally, 77% of asset owners feel they are in charge of undertaking sustainability actions through their investments.

The survey polled 118 public and corporate pensions, endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth entities, insurance companies and other large asset owners worldwide.

The Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing is the sustainable development arm of Morgan Stanley, while Morgan Stanley Investment Management is the company's asset management unit.
