The All India Bank Employees Association denied calling for a five-day bank strike in November, Indo-Asian News Service reported Oct. 15, citing a top official.
The association has not issued a circular or notice regarding the five-day strike given by the United Forum for Bank Unions, said C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary for AIBEA.
A message was circulated in social media under the AIBEA letterhead that claimed the United Forum for Bank Unions called for a five-day strike from Nov. 26 to Nov. 30. "Some malicious elements have cut-pasted the union's letter head and my signature on a plain paper and added some malicious message in the middle," Venkatachalam said.
Bank unions have rejected the Indian Banks' Association's proposal to link bankers' wages to operating profits and return on assets. Venkatachalam said the proposal will ensure that only employees of six banks will get a wage hike.
