Insurance moves: Molina Healthcare, Willis Re appoint execs

Managed care

Molina Healthcare Inc. appointed Marc Russo executive vice president of Medicaid health plans and Dave Reynolds senior vice president of health plans.

Russo was most recently president of Anthem Inc.'s Medicare business, while Reynolds was previously senior vice president and division president at WellCare Health Plans Inc.

Pam Sedmak will transition from her role as executive vice president of health plan operations to focus solely on revenue growth initiatives.

Jason Dees was also appointed executive vice president of Marketplace and will become chief medical officer for the entire enterprise.

Property and casualty

Catalina Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd. appointed Bruce Hemphill and Thomas Sorell to its board as nonexecutive directors, effective December 2019.

Sorell will relinquish his role as chief investment officer at Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America in February, but will remain an executive of the firm until December 2020. Hemphill is a former CEO of Old Mutual PLC.

Catalina also noted that its U.K. subsidiaries recently added independent nonexecutive directors Walter Gontarek and Bob Howe, while its Bermuda reinsurer, Catalina General Insurance Ltd., named Rees Fletcher and James O'Shaughnessy as independent nonexecutive directors.


AXIS Insurance Co. appointed Sam Walsh senior underwriter and Mat Pifer underwriter in its renewables division.

Walsh was previously senior underwriter of onshore wind and solar risks in North America at GCube Insurance Services Inc.

AXIS Insurance is the insurance business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd.


Liberty Mutual Insurance appointed Amy Gross to the newly created role of practice leader for private equity and mergers and acquisition.

Gross was previously vice president and division underwriting manager of Liberty Mutual's Global Risk Solutions' national insurance risk management unit.


Markel Corp. appointed Anirudh Singh chief underwriting officer in India, effective Dec. 24, 2019, Insurance Business Asia reported.

Singh was most recently chief risk officer at QBE General Insurance.


The U.K. P&I Club appointed Kostas Karavasilis senior loss prevention executive in its Greek office, Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide reported.

He will be based in the company's Piraeus office.


Carola Wahl was elected an independent member of the boards of Generali Assurances Generales SA and Generali Personenversicherungen AG.

She replaces Martha Böckenfeld, who resigned from the two boards and from the boards of Fortuna Legal Protection Insurance Co. Ltd. and Fortuna Investment AG.

All the companies are units of Generali (Schweiz) Holding AG, which is itself a unit of Generali.


Willis Re Inc. appointed Simon Buxton managing director of its international customized reinsurance practice.

Buxton will be based in London and will report to Willis Re International CEO Tony Melia.

Willis Re is the reinsurance business of Willis Towers Watson PLC.


Arnoud Boot resigned from the board of directors of Reinsurance Group of America Inc.

The board will appoint a successor to Boot as chair of its audit committee on Jan. 23.
