Report: US agrees to issue special licenses to Huawei suppliers

The U.S. government agreed to provide some U.S. companies with special licenses to supply Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. with nonsensitive goods, The New York Times reported, citing sources.

U.S. President Donald Trump greenlit the issuance of licenses in a meeting last week. However, the U.S. government's approval only equates to a temporary reprieve, which gives suppliers of the Chinese telecom company and Huawei-reliant companies, time to look into alternative arrangements.

The U.S. Department of Commerce will furnish licenses to companies dealing with Huawei given that their undertakings will not harm U.S. national security, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The move comes ahead of an upcoming meeting between the U.S. and China, for another round of trade talks.

The U.S. blacklisted Huawei in May due to perceived threats to U.S. national security or foreign policy interest.
