Freeport LNG Development LP shipped the first commissioning LNG cargo from the second liquefaction train of its export terminal on Quintana Island in Freeport, Texas.
The second train's first cargo is a precursor to its substantial completion, according to a Dec. 18 news release.
The partnership started LNG production on the second train in early December. Freeport LNG expects initial production on its third train to start in the first quarter of 2020.
Construction and engineering company Zachry Group and McDermott International Inc. partnered under a joint venture for the development of Freeport LNG's first and second train. Chiyoda International Corp. joined the venture partnership for work on the export facility's third train. The venture project includes the construction of three pre-treatment trains, a liquefaction facility with three trains, a second loading berth and a 165,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank.
