NB Power to invest up to C$82M in New Brunswick efficiency programs

NB Power plans up to C$82 million in energy efficiency investments for homes, businesses and public spaces over the next five years.

The utility's plans are part of an overall planned investment of C$234 million in energy efficiency programs in New Brunswick during that time period, according to a Dec. 4 news release. The C$234 million investment could drive an estimated C$150 million in GDP growth.

NB Power's planned investment includes C$44.7 million for residential customers, C$32 million for commercial and industrial customers, and C$5.7 million to support public education and market transformation projects, which will be made over a three-year period, according to news release. NB Power's planned enhanced efficiency programs will also be available to customers of New Brunswick's municipal utilities.

"Investing in energy efficiency is a key part of NB Power's long-term strategy to ensure New Brunswickers have clean, reliable energy at stable prices for generations to come by reducing demand on the grid and investing in its modernization," NB Power President and CEO Gaëtan Thomas said in a statement.

Other planned investments include up to C$51 million from the federal government through the Low Carbon Economy Fund, and C$101 million for energy retrofits and renewable energy upgrades in provincial government buildings.
