Report: Best Buy to stop selling Huawei phones

Electronics retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. is set to end its relationship with Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Bloomberg News reported March 21, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.

The decision reportedly comes amid U.S. government concerns about Huawei's possible links to the Chinese government.

It also follows reports that mobile service providers AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. both dropped plans to distribute Huawei devices in the U.S. amid political pressure.

The Chinese company has opted to sell its recently released Mate 10 Pro smartphone directly through retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon.com Inc., according to the report. Although Best Buy still has the Mate 10 Pro available for purchase online, the source told Bloomberg that no additional supply will be purchased from Huawei, and sales of the phone will end soon.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Huawei said it has a "proven history of delivering products that meet the highest security, privacy and engineering standards in the industry and are certified by the Federal Communications Commission for sale in the U.S."
