ANA Holdings 9-month net income surges

ANA Holdings Inc. reported net income of ¥152.9 billion in the nine months to Dec. 31, 2017, compared to ¥86.5 billion in the same period a year ago.

Operating revenues reached ¥1.491 trillion in the April-to-December 2017 period compared to ¥1.332 trillion a year ago. Meanwhile, operating income amounted to ¥165.9 billion, compared to ¥130.2 billion a year ago.

The Japanese airline said that the introduction of discount fares for domestic air travel and an optimized route network helped boost the number of passengers and revenue year over year. Domestic passenger service revenue rose 2.4%, or ¥12.5 billion, year over year, while international passenger service revenue increased by 15.2%, or ¥59 billion, year over year. Despite strong demand, inbound travel service to Japan saw a year-on-year decline in operating revenue due to the impact of increasingly stiff competition.

Revenue from domestic cargo service edged up 0.1% and that from international cargo service rose 30.5% year over year.

The company partly attributed the rise in net profit to extraordinary profit and other gains resulting from of the acquisition of Peach Aviation as a consolidated subsidiary during the period.

The group also maintained its net income outlook for fiscal year 2017 at ¥132 billion.
