After five years at the helm, Jaime González Aguadé stepped down as head of the CNBV, effective Dec. 19, the banking and securities regulator said.
According to an El Economista report, González Aguadé resigned to join the campaign of Mexican presidential candidate José Antonio Meade.
The finance ministry is set to appoint González Aguadé's replacement in the coming days. Until then, the CNBV said it "will continue to comply with the legal mandate established in the applicable legal systems."
