The majority of state attorneys general are preparing to begin an antitrust investigation into Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC, The Washington Post reported on Sept. 3.

A group of attorneys general representing the effort are expected to make an announcement on the investigation Sept. 9, according to the report.

A group of state attorneys general met with top officials from the U.S. Department of Justice in July to discuss competition concerns in the tech industry and that a group of state attorneys general could initiate a joint probe of tech companies as early as September, The Wall Street Journal reported in August.

The report comes amid mounting regulatory pressure and competition concerns against big tech companies. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission also announced the formation of a task force to monitor competition in U.S. technology markets in February.

After being hit with a $5 billion fine in July by the FTC for privacy violations, Facebook Inc. disclosed that it was being investigated by the FTC for antitrust concerns.
