Gas South acquires Chesapeake Utilities subsidiary's Fla. assets

Gas South LLC said Oct. 22 that it acquired the Florida assets of Chesapeake Utilities Corp.'s natural gas marketing subsidiary Peninsula Energy Services Co. Inc., or PESCO, for an undisclosed amount.

Gas South, which entered Florida's commercial and industrial gas markets in 2014, will start serving its newly acquired customers Nov. 1, according to an Oct. 22 news release.

Aside from the deal with Gas South, Chesapeake on Oct. 9 announced that it has entered two other separate deals to sell the majority of PESCO's assets. The non-Florida retail operations would be sold to energy marketing company United Energy Trading LLC, while its Mid-Atlantic wholesale contracts and Chesapeake Utilities' Delaware and Maryland divisions and Sandpiper Energy Asset Management agreements would be divested to New Jersey Resources Corp. unit NJR Energy Services Co.

Gas South is a Georgia-based natural gas provider that serves more than 300,000 customers. Chesapeake Utilities engages in natural gas and electricity distribution services, among other lines of business.
