FERC to prepare environmental review for 3 National Fuel projects

FERC staff announced its intent to prepare an environmentalassessment for a group of natural gas pipeline installation, replacement andabandonment projects in New York proposed by National Fuel Gas Co.'s

With the May 2 notice of the environmental assessment, thestaff opened the scoping process for the three joined projects, which wouldprovide approximately 2,600 Dth/d of additional firm capacity of natural gas.The new capacity would be offered in an open season. The three projects wouldbe built in Erie County, N.Y., and are expected to cost approximately $29.4million.

The scoping process will gather input on the project fromthe public and from interested agencies, staff wrote. Comments on environmentalissues related to the projects must be submitted by June 2.

"The main goal of the scoping process is to focus theanalysis in the EA on the important environmental issues," staff wrote.

In April, FERC announced that National Fuel submitted anapplication for theproposed projects, which would allow National Fuel to replace vintage baresteel pipeline with a coated steel pipeline in order to increase the system'sintegrity and reliability. The application sought a certificate to construct,replace and abandon pipelines and modify compressor facilities on National Fuel'sT2KNY, TNY and KNY lines.
