Top news

* McAfee LLC tapped Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Corp. as well as a full banking syndicate for a planned initial public offering this fall, Bloomberg News reports, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. McAfee is 51% owned by private equity firm TPG Capital Management LP, while Intel Corp. and Thoma Bravo LLC own stakes.

* CBS Corp. President and acting CEO Joe Ianniello highlighted diversity and inclusion efforts at the company in a memo to staffers, Variety reports. While noting that the media company is increasing headcount and resources in human resources and diversity & inclusion, Ianniello disclosed reforms for its transparency and accountability processes.

* DISH Network Corp. and Walt Disney Co. agreed to a brief extension to an existing carriage deal between the companies, Multichannel News reports, citing sources. The extension allowed DISH subscribers to continue to access FX (US), FXX (US), FXM (US), National Geographic Channel (US) and National Geographic WILD channels as talks continue.

* The changing nature of data storage and the increased move to hybrid cloud solutions is creating M&A targets of some of the higher-performing, small-to-midsized cybersecurity companies, analysts said. Cybersecurity providers historically focused on endpoint security, protecting the computers and servers owned by a specific company.

Internet & OTT

* A federal grand jury indicted eight individuals for running two illegal streaming services in the U.S. In a news release, the U.S. Department of Justice said the services resulted in a loss of millions of dollars to television program and motion picture copyright owners. The services were offering more TV shows and movies than streaming content providers like Netflix Inc., Hulu LLC and Amazon.com Inc.'s Prime Video, the DOJ added.

* Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC is shutting down its job application tracking system Google Hire, TechCrunch.com reports, citing emails sent to customers. Google Hire was introduced two years ago to simplify the hiring process for recruiters.

* Hulu introduced revamped apps for iOS and Android devices, according to a report by TechCrunch.com. The redesigned iOS app replaced "Lineup" with "Hulu Picks."

Programming

* Gray Television Inc. reached a new agreement with Fox Corp.'s Fox Television Network, extending and renewing the network affiliations for all of Gray's FOX (US) affiliated TV stations across 21 markets. The 21 markets include Cincinnati; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Birmingham, Ala.; and New Orleans, according to a news release.

* Bob Broussard will retire as president of AMC Networks Inc.'s distribution at the end of the year. Broussard joined the company's legal department in 1989, according to a news release.

Technology

* Microsoft Corp. scheduled a new Surface event on Oct. 2 in New York, TechCrunch.com reports, citing company invites. The company could unveil updates to its existing lineup of Surface laptops, and potentially a new product at the event.

* Anthony Levandowski, a former executive at Waymo LLC, has been charged for stealing self-driving trade secrets from former employer Google before joining Uber Technologies Inc., Reuters reports. Levandowski pleaded not guilty to the charges through one of his lawyers at an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nathanael Cousins in San Jose, Calif.

The day ahead

Early morning futures indicators pointed to a higher opening for the U.S. market.

In Asia, the Hang Seng fell 0.19% to 25,615.48, and the Nikkei 225 rose 0.11% to 20,479.42.

In Europe, around midday, the FTSE 100 was up 0.23% to 7,105.45, and the Euronext 100 lost 0.54% to 1,039.34.

On the macro front

The U.S. state street investor confidence index, the U.S. Energy Information Administration petroleum status report and the U.S. survey of business uncertainty are due out today.
