Reports: Tesco, Next partner for shop-in-shop trial

Tesco Plc said it has entered a deal with Next Plc to trial a shop-in-shop clothing concession at the U.K. supermarket operator's Extra branch at London's Surrey Quays, according to media reports Nov. 30.

Next will take up 4,300 square feet of space at the store to offer a basic range of menswear and womenswear, Reuters and Retail Gazette reported, citing the company.

Reuters reported that the move comes at a time when consumers in the U.K. increasingly are shopping at smaller convenience stores or online. This new consumer trend has led Tesco, along with other major supermarket chains, to set up superstores with other retail brands to fill space, the report said.

Tesco already has third-party concession deals with other companies including electricals and mobile phone retailer Dixons Carphone Plc, fashion retailer Arcadia and health foods retailer Holland & Barrett, Retail Gazette and Reuters said.
