Workers down tools at Buenaventura's Uchucchacua mine in Peru

Cia. de Minas Buenaventura SAA said Jan. 11 that the contractors' union at its Uchucchacua silver mine in Peru launched a strike on Jan. 9 over "unsuitable working conditions."

The union also protested Buenaventura's dismissal of certain contracted workers at the site as the company concluded some contractor-related services.

The Peruvian Labor Authority declared the labor action illegal, the company said, adding that it will update the market on related developments or changes as they occur.
