Wintershall cleared to drill near Hvitveis discovery in Norwegian Sea

Wintershall Holding GmbH subsidiary Wintershall Norge AS received a drilling permit from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill well 6706/6-2 S in production license 847 in the Norwegian Sea, according to an Oct. 17 release.

The well will be seven kilometers northwest of the 6706/6-1, or Hvitveis, discovery and will be drilled by the Transocean Spitsbergen drilling facility.

Before drilling starts, Wintershall Norge will have to obtain all other consents and permits required by other authorities.

Production license 847 is operated by Wintershall Norge AS with a 40% stake, while Repsol SA subsidiary Repsol Norge AS, OMV AG subsidiary OMV (Norge) AS and Equinor subsidiary Equinor Energy AS each hold a 20% interest.
