Report: Vivendi to pull plug on Germany's Watchever

's subscription video-on-demand service Watcheverwill cease operations on Dec. 31 due to stiff competition, Broadband TV Newsreported July 22, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The movewill affect the company's 17 Berlin-based employees, while those working inParis and Marseille, which are about 100 people, will reportedly move to a new projectinvolving VOD and mobile services for Europe and Latin America.

Watchevercompetes in Germany with Amazon.com Inc., Netflix Inc., AppleInc.'s iTunes, ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE's maxdome and 's Play.

A Vivendispokesperson reportedly declined to comment on the matter.
