Report: Boeing executive says 777-8 launch date 'still under consideration'

Boeing Co.'s launch date for its ultra-long-range 777-8 jet remains uncertain as the company awaits a potential order from Australian flag carrier Qantas Airways Ltd., Reuters reported.

The timetable for the aircraft's entry into service is "still under consideration" and would partly depend on customer demand, said Darren Hulst, a Boeing senior marketing executive who briefed the media on Oct. 16 from Sydney, according to the report.

Qantas Airways is still deliberating whether to choose Boeing or its European rival Airbus SE as the aircraft supplier for its planned 21-hour nonstop Sydney-to-London flights. The company expects to make a decision by the end of 2019 and hopes that deliveries could begin by late 2022.

Boeing announced in August that it had delayed the 777-8 jet's launch after reviewing its development program schedule and the needs of the current customers.
