T-Mobile US Inc. added 7 million total net customers in full year 2019, bringing its total customer count to 86.0 million at year-end.
T-Mobile said Jan. 7 that the total net additions for the full year included 4.5 million branded postpaid net additions, beating its increased customer guidance range of 4.1 million to 4.3 million for the full year. Of the 4.5 million total, 3.1 million were branded postpaid phone net additions. The company also tallied 339,000 branded prepaid net additions.
For the fourth quarter of 2019, the company posted 1.9 million total net additions, including 1.3 million branded postpaid net additions and 77,000 branded prepaid net additions.
Migrations to branded postpaid plans reduced branded prepaid net customer additions by about 160,000 in the fourth quarter and 525,000 for full year 2019. Wholesale net customer additions were 472,000 in the fourth quarter of 2019 and 2.2 million for full year 2019.
T-Mobile closed 2019 still working to complete its pending merger with Sprint Corp. A multistate lawsuit led by New York and California is underway in a federal district court in New York. The lawsuit alleges the merger would harm innovation and lead to higher prices for consumers. With approvals already secured from federal regulators, the trial is believed to be the last major regulatory or legal hurdle for the deal.
