Former South African president Zuma facing corruption charges

Jacob Zuma, South African's former president who resigned last month, is facing reinstated corruption charges against him in a case related to a late 1990s multibillion-dollar arms deal, the country's chief prosecutor Shaun Abrahams said.

"After consideration of the matter, I am of the view that there are reasonable prospects of successful prosecution of Mr. Zuma on the charges listed in the indictment," Abrahams told a televised news conference.

Zuma was a leader in the governing African National Congress in 1999 when the arms deal was finalized. His supporters argue that the case against him is politically motivated.
