Total U.S. nuclear plant availability swung higher early Oct. 12 to 88.85%, up from 88.12% on Oct. 11 and still much higher than the 80.24% reported on the same day a year ago.
Giving a boost to U.S. output was the return of Exelon Corp.'s Three Mile Island 1 in Pennsylvania, which was taken offline to repair control rod assembly motor. The unit was operating at 30% as of early Oct. 12.
In addition, two other units ramped output. Dominion Energy Inc.'s North Anna 2 plant in Virginia saw production rise from 48% on Oct. 11 to 75% early Oct. 12 while Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was pegged at 85% early Oct. 12, up from 66% on Oct. 11.
As of early Oct. 12, a total of nine nuclear power plants remain offline.
