Costco Wholesale Corp. is looking to expand its presence in Australia this year with two new physical stores and an e-commerce platform, The Sydney Morning Herald reported Jan. 2, citing country manager Patrick Noone.
The Washington-based membership warehouse retailer plans to open a new store in Brisbane in February, according to the report. Meanwhile, construction on an outlet in Perth is about to begin, with a target to open ahead of Christmas.
Noone, who serves as managing director at Costco Wholesale Australia Pty. Ltd., also told the newspaper that the company wants to launch an online store this year to serve every capital city in Australia. However, he added that there were no definite plans in place yet and declined to disclose any further details.
Costco entered Australia in 2009 and operates 10 warehouse stores around the country, the report said. The retailer also provides a wholesale delivery service around Melbourne for orders above A$700.
